Shock and horror. That was the look that encompassed all of their faces on this Sunday night on Verity Isle. The evening had started off light, a sermon on Honesty, after which they were asked to say one honest thing about another in the room. Things were going well. Each one there stepped up and made a statement. Honesty was spreading throughout the room. Cameron had said that he once planned on kill the Mayor. Daz mentioned how happy and proud he was of the job Yolen was doing as Vice Mayor. Samon had gone on about how thankful he was about what Fong had done for him over the years... Little did the crowd know of the stunning news that Fong was about to reveal. Only three men knew of the news at this point. Fong, Samon, and Raedyn, the physician of Verity Isle.
Fong labored up to the front of the grand hall that was in the Temple of Honesty. Samon was at his side, helping him to stand straight so that Fong could address the crowd with his statement of Honesty. Fong looked out over the crowd, they were waiting to hear what he had to say. Even possessed by the sickness, his charisma was such that they were silent and waiting for him to speak.
He began by thanking them for being there. Slowly, he began to explain what the situation was.
He hold them of how the cure they had tried to make the night before, was actually more harmful than helpful. He told them of how Raedyn had told him that he had maybe a week of life left before he passed out. Shock and horror... No one knew how to react. The room was silent. The silence was broken by a coughing fit by the former Mayor Fong. He went down to one knee, blood dripping on the ground. He was to weak to go on explaining things. Rhiannon and Hephaestus helped him back to his seat.
Samon stood in front of the crowd. It was now his duty to explain the rest of the situation to them.
They asked if there was any way to help save Fong from his fate? They needed any kind of spark of hope. There was hope for them, for Fong. Raedyn had given them a recipe for something that may be a cure. This was no miracle cure. There was a chance it might not work. A large chance that it might not work. On top of that, the items needed to mix it, some common, others were on the near impossible to get. He read the list of what was needed to the crowd. Within minutes, they had almost half the list completed. The crowd gathered decided that night that they would work to obtain almost all of it that very night!
They gathered outside, a line of men and women ready to go into battle. Sir Patrick, who was acting as Captain of the Militia since Beowulf's retirement, shouted orders to them. He told them they must go to Destard! They were to battle the largest, oldest dragon in the deepest part of the dungeon. Rhiannon opened a gate to Destard, and the group went in quickly. They battled hard and fast down to the darkest, deepest level of the dungeon Destard. When at last they met up with the ancient dragon that lived in the bottom. The dragon was powerful, but nothing compared to the might of the Iron Fist that is the Moonglow Militia. The dragon fell hard to the ground. Sir Patrick took a scale off the hide of the dragon. That was one item down of the list.
They recollected at the Moonglow bank. The next item would take all of them to get. It wouldn't be an easy task at all. They marched out, heading for the Humility Shrine. From the gate at Humility, they headed east into the jungle. Rats and slimes, all throughout the area. Lucky call for them, Baracoon would be summoned as they needed. The group battled hard, many fell to the beasts that guarded Baracoon. After an intense battle, they finally were able to summon the Pied Piper himself. A rough battle ensued. Many more fell to the power of the Pied Piper. Some joined up on his side due to the music he played. In the end, the Iron Fist came through, and the Pied Piper fell down to the ground, defeated. While many recovered items from the fallen, Sir Patrick went to his knees, and leaned over the corpse of the Pied Piper, and plunged his blade into the chest of the fallen bard. He stuck his hand into the opening, and pulled out the blood drenched heart of Baracoon. One more item of the list.
As the survivors returned to Moonglow, Samon gave them the news that they were one item away from collecting all that was needed. It was the blood of an Orc. However, it wasn't just any orc, it had to be the RIGHT orc. Samon was given, by Raedyn, a note with the characteristics, details, and mannerisms of the orc that they needed to find. The problem at hand, the only place this orc could be found...was the Orc Fort just to the west of Dark Cove.
Samon sent them all back to their homes. Tomorrow they would march to Dark Cove and complete their mission. Fong's life lay in their hands, and they must save him.
He sat at his desk after replying to a letter sent to him by a man from Minoc...he closed his eyes, slowly drifting off to sleep. In his dreams, a name appeared to him... Cear...
