How did the three of you decide to create MTC? By that I mean, why was it you three?
The idea of MTC’s formation was primarily envisioned by GreyPawn. During the early years of Atlantic’s history, there were several town councils representing the cities of virtue, Trinsic and Yew being among the most prominent. To that effect, GreyPawn, who was a Moonglow native and a Sage of Honesty in the Heralds of the Awakening, decided to establish a council of honesty, much like the councils of Trinsic and Yew. The Heralds of the Awakening were a spiritual group consisting of various enlightened leaders who promoted community and the study of virtue in all facets of Britannian life. GreyPawn was originally a member of AMT (The Atlantic Mage Tower), the most prestigious guild and organization for magic users across the realm. The tower was located on the upper western portion of Verity Island, and the organization itself was quite large and active during the old times.
As for KnightMare’s role and my own, it was actually a matter of coincidence that we all got together on this newly founded project. KnightMare was a former member of the guild I originally belonged to (The Blackguards of Sovereignty, a member of the original Moonglow Alliance). The original Moonglow Alliance was a loose alliance of organizations, primarily unaligned roleplay guilds and anti-PK guilds that banded together in the days before Trammel to fight off murderers and keep Moonglow safe. My role was primarily to fight any murderers outside Moonglow’s gates and organize attacks to hold off any groups of player killers on the island. The Moonglow Alliance itself lasted a year, and then disbanded due to lack of leadership. The Blackguards of Sovereignty eventually fell to the same fate, as their leader quit and the remaining members scattered to different organizations.
At this time I was helping out and assisting Silver Dryad and the newly started WYU (West Yew University), a school to help new players learn and adapt to Britannia. One day KnightMare, who was an acquaintance of GreyPawn’s from Stratics, notified me of a new council forming, and the accompanying announcement on many sites and boards. I was intrigued by the notion, especially since I was promised a leadership position as the second in command of the Militia, and joined at his behest, eventually meeting GreyPawn. It was from there that we all started the council, with GreyPawn primarily running and organizing it during the initial stage.
Why was MTC created?
MTC was created as a town council of Honesty, another bastion of virtue to further strengthen our cities defenses against the various dangers of the outside world. During this time there were many troubles with invasions and global plots that threatened to tear apart Britannia as a whole, having a standing militia and council in place on Moonglow was aimed to fill the emptiness left behind at the collapse of the Moonglow Alliance and the overall lack of movement from the Atlantic Mage Tower.
What were the original intention's of the guild?
Our original intentions were for the betterment of Moonglow, to protect it and promote it. Our initial efforts met with problems by the murderers in region, some of which later changed their ways and joined us, including the former vice mayor Ket Tarma. However, the tales of fights between the Order of the Ebon Skull and later, the newly formed Stormreaver Orc clan were the most talked about. These organizations were opposed to virtue, and were regular opponents of all the town councils. However aside from Yew, the Orcs had a special hatred for Moonglow due to the conflict of the festival of the Orcish Mage.
GreyPawn’s original contributions to Moonglow were the placement of the garden in front of the bank, a petition to the gods that granted us a more attractive city, as well as a trash barrel in front of the bank to keep the area clean. While this was never a problem before, due to the fact that the Moonglow Bank was originally located in the Counselors Guild just north of where the sole bank now stands, a little known fact. When the bankers vacated the building, the current bank was quite a drab area for players to congregate.
In addition to that, GreyPawn had a hand in several other projects in Moonglow, including the original zoo (before they removed the animal spawn there, and only reintroduced it as a collections system).
KnightMare led the charges against the Orcs and the Order of the Ebon Skull, while I maintained my old post at Moonglow’s gates, fighting off the murderers and thieves that would plague the city. My role in the early years of Moonglow wasn’t an impressive one, it was only after a council wide collapse and fall of leadership did GreyPawn and I step up to elevate Moonglow beyond even its former limits.
RP wise how did you three begin to create the guild?
A call went out across the realms, and word spread quickly that the council of honesty was being formed, GreyPawn, who was friends with Aleph, an influential Oracle in the Heralds of the Awakening had many contacts. As a well known player in the former Moonglow Alliance, I also had many contacts, and access to many members of collapsed organizations based in Moonglow looking for a new home, and through rallying support, we managed to quickly gather dozens of inhabitants of Moonglow to the Council. RP wise it was almost natural, we called, and Moonglow answered. The council was formed, much like the Councils of Yew and Trinsic, and we thrived.
In the early years, we were merely content with the role of administering, defending and promoting Moonglow, it was only later that we became a much more global presence.
When exactly was the guild founded? (To the best of your recollection)RP wise how quickly did it take to build MTC up to a decent number of active people? (Number being..20-30?)
I believe late 1998 was the founding date, translated into Britannian years, that would be a hundred or so years back I believe. To get to an active number of 20-30 in those days was an easy accomplishment; there were more people, more players, and more activity. We reached that number within the first year.
What was the reason for the creation of MTC and what inspired it?
You would have to ask GreyPawn that, it came from his imagination originally.
Did Mayor Greypawn wish for MTC to be independent from the start or were you apart of the Regency or other alliances?
The leadership of the Council was primarily aligned with the Heralds of the Awakening, the Regency and other alliances were far from being created when MTC was formed as Lord British still stood upon the throne. Moonglow was originally a virtue organization, and was on friendly terms with all other town councils, we slowly moved more towards independence as our strength grew, although we were always very defensive of the council, and did not appreciate others trying to order or influence us. During the inception of the Regency, Moonglow declared it’s full sovereignty, rather than be ruled by an appointed of Lord British. It was from that moment that we severed all ties from the Heralds of the Awakening and its allies.
What were some of the first things MTC did after being founded? Such as duty's, events, and battles?
We would often do drills (marches and formation training in Moonglow Square), patrols of the city, in and out of the gates. Events such as the Finneas the Goatherd festival (where we would parade into town tossing gold onto the ground, and later checks, the equivalent of 20 million or so in today’s currency). Battles were very common, the Order of the Ebon Skull, the Orcs, and the Shadow Conclave were our lifelong enemies. We would defend, attack, and counterattack against them at every opportunity, even marching into Caina and invading Golgotha once our armies began to grow.
Why was the Island of Moonglow chosen?
It was all of our homes, we defended and lived in Moonglow, it was an easy choice, we owed it to Moonglow and its people to found a council for their betterment.
